In January we partnered with Premier League Primary Stars to launch a competition to get students to think creativity about how they can reduce their use of single-use plastics in school. Since launch, we have received many amazing submissions, giving us a very hard job of picking a national winner!

After much deliberation, we finally came to the conclusion that St Mary's Catholic Primary School deserved to be visited by both the Premier League trophy and Plasticus the Sky Ocean Rescue Whale. The students have taken part in a number of activities helping their school to #PassOnPlastic, including writing to their local recycling firm and requesting the support of their mayor too. After being announced as a Regional winner, the students visited Sky Academy Studios to create their own news report about their pledge which you can view below.

Our pledge is to inform and encourage people in Wrexham to "THINK and recycle!'. As a result of our actions, the Mayor is looking into having more recycle bins in Wrexham and our school are being given recycling bins for our school yards from a local plastic packaging company. We designed posters "Refill not landfill' to encourage people to reuse their water bottles and displayed them in local shop windows. We organised a Christmas Fair using recyclable goods and also carried out an informative assembly for the whole school and parents.
